  •  Diablo Road Bridge Slope Repair/W. El Pintado Sidewalk Repair, CIP A-457

This project will repair erosion within San Ramon Creek beneath the Diablo Road Bridge. Over the years, storm flows have weakened the banks near the bridge abutments. As a result the sidewalk on west side of West El Pintado has slightly subsided. Work will consist of burying boulders within the creek bank to guard against further erosion. To restore the sidewalk, a retaining wall will also be built.  A similar structure was built on the opposite creek bank in 2008.

Because the work is being done in an environmentally-sensitive creek, the Town evaluated the project and created a list of mitigation measures to be implemented during construction to assure no adverse impacts to the creek or wildlife within the corridor.

A portion of El Pintado will be used for staging and access during construction, necessitating some traffic control. Work is set to begin in late summer/early fall 2011 and be completed in four to six months.  For more information on the project, contact Senior Civil Engineer Michael Stella at (925) 314-3316 or mstella@danville.ca.gov.

Hartz Avenue Beautification Project, CIP A-391 and C-319

The Town is planning to improve the northern end of downtown Danville as part of the Hartz Avenue Beautification Project. This $1.9 million project, funded in part by voter-approved Proposition 1B, will renovate and enhance the streetscape between Railroad Avenue and Diablo Road to match historic Hartz Avenue to the south. Diagonal parking will be added as well as brick-banded sidewalks, drainage improvements, street trees, and new decorative street lights. The street will also be repaved. On-going discussions with abutting property owners is underway to assure property rights are respected and business operations will remain unimpeded during construction. This project represents another significant investment in the downtown area in the Town’s on-going effort to encourage residents to Shop Danville First.

For more information about this project, please contact Michael Stella, P.E., Senior Civil Engineer, at mstella@ci.danville.ca.us or ph. 925-314-3316.
