The pomp and circumstance of the awards ceremony may be over, but residents still have a few chances to see what all the buzz was about as the student-made videos in the annual Street Smarts “Be Reel” are now available for viewing online at www.street-smarts.com.
The contest allows middle-schoolers to present short public service videos having to do with safety on Danville streets.
Awards for the top two finalists were held recently with first prize honors going to Diablo Vista Middle School students Danielle Morelan, Kate Callahan and Michael Collari. 2nd Place was awarded to Charlotte Wood Middle School students Gregg Polosky and Jack McGill.
All of the finalists’ videos will also be aired next month on Contra Costa Television. Air dates for the videos will be: Wednesday, September 22 at 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 29 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, September 30 at 5 p.m. CCTV is Comcast channel 27, Astound channel 32 and AT&T U-verse channel 99. The videos will also be available online under Video Contest at www.street-smarts.com.
Those who missed out on the contest this year will have another opportunity as this year’s contest began again for middle school students on October 1. The theme for the 2010-11 year is “Walking and biking to school together is the cool thing to do.”
