Danville Mayor Candace Andersen has been appointed to fill the remaining term of District 2 Supervisor Gayle Uilkema. Andersen, who received 60% of the vote in the June primary was to have taken the seat in January, however Monday evening she was asked by California State Governor Jerry Brown’s office to begin the term as of June 26, 2012.  

Monday evening Andersen informed Town Manager Joe Calabrigo of the appointment and resigned her position on the Town Council. At their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday morning, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors accepted the appointment and Andersen was sworn in by Contra Costa County Clerk Steve Weir. 

At their next regular meeting on July 3, 2012, the Town Council will select a new Mayor and Vice-Mayor to fill out the remainder of the terms, which end December 4, 2012.  

Andersen’s seat will remain vacant through December, with a new council member being chosen in the November General Election.
