Welcome Home for Hometown Gold Medalists

Community Celebration in Danville to Recognize Recent U.S. Women’s Water Polo Gold Medalists Jessica Steffens and Maggie Steffens

The community is invited to congratulate and welcome home sisters Jessica Steffens and Maggie Steffens, members of the gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Water Polo Team from Danville.  The hour-long event will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25 at Oak Hill Park in Danville, less than 600 feet from the pool where they played for the Monte Vista High School Water Polo Team.  The Music in the Park concert series will follow at 6:00 p.m. after the event.

Maggie Steffens and Jessica Steffens, both defenders for the U.S. Team, were crucial in helping the U.S. win a gold medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London with an 8-5 victory over Spain.  The 2012 Olympics was the second for Jessica Steffens and first for Maggie Steffens.

Maggie Steffens and Jessica Steffens will share their experience in London and what it means to bring a gold medal back home to Danville.  The Steffens sisters will each receive a “Key to the Town” and special recognition from the Danville Town Council and other officials.
